Sire Quinar is by Quidam de Revel, took team bronze and fourth place
individually at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelon. As of 1993 he was
ridden by the Danish rider, Thomas Velin, and the pair won the Grand Prix
of Hanover and Arhus/DEN, and also set stardards in breeding. Ten Quidam
de Revel offspring participated in the 2002 World Championships in Jerez,
Spain, including the later team gold winning, Dollar de la Pierrre .
Quinar himself finished his stallion performance test with the top index
of 142.03 points in jumping and was soon successful in advanced S level
international show jumping competitions under Jos Lansink. After
initially breeding in Holstein, he then briefly bred at Zangersheide stud
in Belgium, but soon returned to Holstein. At least nine of his sons have
been licensed so far. His zuchtwertindex in jumping is 144 (79%). Quinar
is the sire of 5 world champion jumping horses; he is the sire of Quik
Nick, who sold for 400,000 EU's at the Holsteiner annual auction.
Quinthago, 5 year old daughter of Quinar, won the FEI world championships
for young horses in 2009 in a jump off - out of l30 in the class. 2 other
Quinars came in llth and l7th. Quinar has excellent conformation, type
and motion and tremendous scope. His bonits are 9988679. Quinar has two
crosses to the great Alme', through the sire Jalisco B on the paternal
side and Aloube Z on the maternal side. The stamm of Quinar is 1020, also
the stamm of Carthago.
Damsire Lataan is by the famous Lord. Lord was an elegant sire with a
commanding presence and good lines. His head could have been more
refined; however, he had expressive eyes and a long, classic riding horse
neck. In additon, he had excellent conformation of the shoulders,
withers, and croup. His foundation was light with very long pasterns; he
was tied-in at the knees, rather straight through the hind legs, and
did'nt have enought detail in the hocks. Lord had spectacular movement
with exrordinary jumping ability which he had proven in eventing. A
possible explanation for his consistently inharmonious type transmission
could have very well been that he was three-quarters thoroughbred. In the
beginning, his stallion sons frequently appeared tall and thin with
unrefined heads while his daughters were visibly nobler.
His first crop produced the international showjumper, Livius who won the
1980 German Showjumping Derby under Peter Luther, and then team medals at
the 1981 European Championships, the World Championships of 1982 and the
1984 Olympic Games.
In fact the showjumping family Luther has been instrumental in the success
of Lord - Peter Luther's sons both starred on Lord progeny - Thieß rode
the licensed stallion, Lord Incipit with great success, and Haucke Luther
was a star in the puissance with Lyra 20.
Other successful competitors by Lord include Luguna (K. Huck), Lafeyette
(H. Schmidt), Actrice (C. O. Nagel), Lusius (E. Gundel) and Pedro who
competed at the World Championships in Dublin with Thomas Frühmann, Loyal
9 (P. Nagel-Tornau) and many more. Successful sire sons include Lantaan in
Holstein, and the sadly short-lived, Lord Liberty in Oldenburg.
In all, Lord sired more than 60 stallion sons, and his progeny won more
than Euro 3,000.000.
Dr Dietrich Rossow in his Stallion Book of the Holsteiner Warmblood Breed,
was somewhat cautious about Lord:
"Lord was himself a successful 3 day horse. He is not a consistent
producer. We see tall horses with big heads and also refined, sometimes
small mares with beautiful heads. Along with his head, he often passes on
his leg faults. All his get are endowed with enormous score over fences.
His best offspring are products of crosses with refined mares."
In the last few years the "L" line has been somewhat sparse in the
international jumping ranks and in the groups of approved stallions, with
a strong preference by the breeders and riders for the "C" line horses.
Dr. Thomas Nissen, the breeding director of the Holsteiner Verband has
recently highly recommended a return to using the "L" line horses and he
has suggested a preference for the Lord line over the Landgraf, which is
certainly a switch from what the breeders originally did. However, in the
context of being able to look back over the last 30 years, it seems that
Lord has, for now, won out between the two great Ladykiller lines.
Dam Dam's sire is Caletto II. From Schridde: "Caletto II was the best
stallion of his age group at his Stallion Licensing in Neumunster. He was
outstanding in presentation with thoroughbred performance ability,
harmonious and deep, but missing something at the loin area and hamstring
musculature. He had a clear, correct foundation with a convincing
presentation of the walk and trot. Caletto II had the same outstanding
canter as Caletto I. His jump was convincing with ideal technique, huge
scope, and excellent form. His good character was praised. Collectively,
Caletto II was a sire of the highest breeding and riding quality, and
signified the epitome of the Holstein performance horse." He died too
young. His best son is Caretino.
