Rio’s Best Kept Secret, aka Heidi is a 1999 Belgian Warmblood mare by the great Jumper stallion Rio Grande and out of the Trakehner mare Salve. Rio Grande was the winner of the 100 day stallion test at November Hill Farm in 1991 with an index of 135 and a jumping index of 134. With Eric Lamaze, Rio Grande was part of Team Canada that won the Nation’s Cup in New York and Toronto in 1995. A great sport horse sire, Rio Grande topped lists of hunter and jumper sires for years in North America.
Damsire Arrak is a member of the famous Ibikus stallion line, which has produced a high number of successful International dressage horses in the German and Danish Trakehner societies as well as other warmblood breeds. Arrak has sired top competition horses in all disciplines, including the Olympic dressage star Merlin.
Second damsire Habicht won the 1977 Central Stallion Show at Schwaiganger, and came in 1st in the International Three-Day Event at Achselschwang. He achieved numerous other victories and placements in eventing competitons up to the advanced class. Habicht has sired 16 approved stallions, among them the winning stallion "Seeadler" (grandfather of the grand prix dressage champion "Renaissance Fleur TSF"), reserve winner "Sixtus" and the premium stallion "Windfall *Pg* " who became federal champion in the German Eventing Championships in 1998, and was part of the bronze-medal 2004 US Eventing Team.
With her former owner Lissa Tepas and Canadian team member Jennifer Ramsey, Heidi showed in the jumpers until a suspensory injury retired her to broodmare duty. Her 2009 foal by Cielo B was a premium Belgian warmblood filly. Heidi is back in foal to Cielo B for a 2010 foal. |
